Gifferly is a lightweight, freeware screen recording application for Windows that captures a designated area of your desktop and saves it directly as an animated GIF. Developed by Matthew Allen, it is designed to be an incredibly straightforward tool for creating quick animations, tutorials, or memes. Core Features

Window-Based Capture: The app features a transparent, resizable window frame. You simply drag and position this window over the exact area of your screen you want to record, then click “Start”.

Flexible Stop Triggers: You can configure the software to record for a fixed duration (e.g., 5 seconds) or set it to record continuously until you press a designated hotkey, such as Escape, Space, or End.

Output Optimization: Users can adjust the frame rate (ranging from 1 to 20 frames per second) and configure technical settings like dither modes (nearest or error diffusion) and color palettes (Optimized or Web-safe) to manage file size.

Visual Effects: The application includes toggle options to capture your mouse cursor and draw “click effects” to highlight your mouse activity, making it ideal for software tutorials. How It Works

Position: Launch the app and place the Gifferly window over the desired desktop area.

Record: Hit “Start”. The main application window automatically hides itself so it doesn’t interfere with your recording.

Save: Once recording stops, Gifferly processes the frames locally and saves the final file to your computer (typically under your Pictures > Capture folder) before automatically opening it in your default web browser for previewing.

(Note: If you are looking for a software library instead, giferly is also the name of an open-source standalone graphical program on GitHub written in Erlang that decodes and displays GIF 89a files using SDL).
