SMARegisTry Backup is a legacy third-party utility designed to back up and restore the Windows Registry. It captures system “hives” to rescue a PC from crashes, blue screens, or malware damage.
If you are using this utility to recover a damaged computer, follow this step-by-step restoration process. Step 1: Access the Recovery Environment
If your PC boots normally, skip to Step 2. If your PC fails to boot into Windows:
Turn on your PC and immediately press the F8 key repeatedly (on older systems) to open the Advanced Boot Options menu. On newer systems, let the PC fail to boot three times to trigger Automatic Repair. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
Select Safe Mode (or Safe Mode with Command Prompt if the primary Windows desktop environment will not load). Step 2: Open SMARegisTry Backup
Once you log into Windows or Safe Mode, open the SMARegisTry Backup software application.
If you cannot access the software’s user interface but have your generated backup files (usually saved as .reg or raw hive files), you can bypass the software entirely:

Browse through the dated list of automatic or manual snapshots and select the backup point created before your PC started experiencing technical issues. Click the Restore or Apply button.

In the Registry Editor, click File in the top menu and choose Import.
